F.A.Q.

What type of warranty comes with a new dock purchase?

Our company offers many different warranties on new docks. For example there is an 8 year conditional warranty on all aluminum and aluminum welds. Some further warranties include the dock to be free from defects of materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of 24 months from the purchase date. (Excluding floats and Gorilla Vinyl decking, which carry their own manufacturer’s warranty)

Some things the warranty does not cover would be wearable parts such as UHMW sleeves and bushings, vinyl rub rail, and vinyl corners. We also do not cover damages from the mishandling, misuse, removal or instillation by the owner or their contractor. Damages from storms, high winds, ice, or natural disasters are also not covered under this warranty. Please ask for our warranty form for more details.

Can I leave my dock in all winter?

Yes, you can leave your dock in all winter. Make sure to check your local regulations before leaving it in. If you are in an area where the water freezes you should take precautions to protect your dock from ice damage. Ice is very dangerous to any type of dock when it has momentum created by wind or current. Calm areas where the water freezes and melts with little movement are ideal for leaving your dock in all winter.

What are the floats on docks made of?

Floats are the key aspect of a dock and its stability. We use larger floats on the ends of each dock section. This gives users a sense of security when walking on the dock, and also reduces the risk of having someone fall and get hurt. Our floats have a nominal .150 nominal wall thickness and are rotational molded from virgin grade materials with UV inhibitors assuring long life. The polyethylene shell is unaffected by saltwater, oil, gasoline, and most chemicals. The floats are completely foam filled using a 1 to 1.5 density EPS. These Permafloat flotation units carry a 15 year warranty.

How much weight can a float support?

There are multiple different size floats. At Lakeside Docks we use 12” deep floats. However we can use other sizes upon request. The buoyancy of a 2’x4’x12” float is 434 lbs., the buoyancy of a 3’x4’x12” float is 691 lbs., and the buoyancy of a 4’x4’x12” float is 937 lbs. These are our most commonly used float sizes.

What do I do with my old dock?

You have multiple choices with your old dock. You can dispose of this yourself if you would like or we can do that for you. You also have the option to trade it in if it has any value. We offer the option of consignment as well.

Does the decking get hot?

We use an extruded vinyl decking that does not contain filler so this allows the heat to dissipate. Our vinyl decking will get warm to the touch, however, it does not absorb heat. You can walk barefoot on our docks all summer long.

Is vinyl decking better than wood decking?

Our vinyl decking comes with a limited lifetime warranty. It is made from a proprietary blend of UV stabilized vinyl making it virtually maintenance free. It is remarkably easy to clean, since the joints can’t trap leaves, pine needles, or other debris. It is also safer because it can’t splinter like wood. Vinyl decking is going to be much lighter in weight as well as give you multiple different color options. Treated wood decking is cheaper than vinyl decking and it also provides that classic dock look. With wood decking also comes upkeep and maintenance such as staining and pressure washing every year.
